Beyond Zero premiere in Slovenia on November 29 and celebrating 20 years of IRDO

Beyond Zero is a film that chronicles extraordinary leader Ray Anderson and his decades-long business transformation of Interface, one of the largest fabric companies in the world. Why extraordinary? Since it started with sustainable development in 1994 – let’s remember that independent Slovenia was counting two years at the time, when we did not even know the concept of ESG. Remarkable for persevering and transforming a joint-stock company focused solely on profit. Despite the opposition from the owners, despite the cost, despite the unknowns, Ray believed in himself and made his way to transform the company. In the film, he tells us transformation through his personal and business story, setting a bright example and demonstration of heartfelt determination. The film Beyond Zero will have slovenian premiere in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 29 November.

When we were arranging the date of the tour in Slovenia, there were quite a few coincidences. For example, the license to broadcast this exceptional documentary for Europe is held by Tomas Svoboda (Freedom – an exceptional surname, isn’t it?), the director  of the company Sustainova, the director  of the Institute for the Development of Social Responsibility – IRDO and the organizer of the event in Slovenia is Anita Hrast (Oak – another exceptional surname, right?), Navdihni.me (nomen est omen) is the media sponsor of the event, and one of the best Slovenian, international sustainable family businesses – Lumar House, is the sponsor.

About Ray Andersen and His Legacy: The Foundation

Ray C. Anderson (July 28, 1934 – August 8, 2011) was the founder and president  of Interface Inc., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of modular carpets for commercial and residential purposes and a leading manufacturer of commercial wide fabrics and commercial fabrics. He was known in environmental circles for his innovative and progressive stance on industrial ecology and sustainability.

Anderson died on August 8, 2011, aged 77, twenty months after he was diagnosed with cancer. On July 28, 2012, Anderson’s family re-established  the Ray C. Anderson Foundation with a new purpose.

Family members announced the rebirth and reorientation of the foundation on Anderson’s birthday, a year after his death in 2011. The purpose of the Ray C. Anderson Foundation is to uphold shared values and carry on Anderson’s legacy. The Ray C. Anderson Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and advance the concepts of sustainable production and consumption.

Green transition and transformation of companies in Slovenia and watching the film Beyond Zero

will take place on 29 November 2024, from 9.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m., in Hall A, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia in Ljubljana, Dimičeva 13, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia, EU.

The event is free of charge for participants, and it is organized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the IRDO Institute for the Development of Social Responsibility.

We are collecting applications until the places are filled. The number of participants is limited. Priority in registration is given to IRDO members, IRDO certificate holders, HORUS awardees, IRDO partners and members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as sponsors and partners of the event. The event is primarily intended for corporate executives and ESG professionals. In case of too many registered participants for the live event, we will try to organize an additional online broadcast. In case of registration and non-attendance at the live event, you will be charged 30 EUR + VAT for non-attendance at the event (except in case of excusable reasons).

We are celebrating the anniversary in the spirit of knowledge transfer and exchange of experience with managers, ESG experts and IRDO members, supporting partners and members of our partners.

The event is organized at the invitation of Tomas Svoboda, who is the founder  of Sustainova and a licensed regional partner for Beyond Zero Film in Europe. The IRDO Institute has been a national partner organization of CSR Europe for more than ten years, so Mr. Svoboda invited him to participate in the presentation of the film in Slovenia. Otherwise, they work with local partners in each EU country to co-organise a film screening and show corporations an excellent case study  of how to successfully transform sustainable business. During this time, they have carried out and are still preparing 15+ events in Europe, but the film has not yet been screened in Slovenia.
